Dr.Rajshree Vasudevan - Dance, Aesthetics, History

Dr.RajshreeVasudevan, trained in Bharatanrtyam, Kuchipudi, Manipuri, Carnatic Music and Yoga has around 3 decades of experience in the field of performing arts. She has performed for prestigious organizations in India and abroad, apart from teaching and lecturing in manifold aspects of art. A gold medalist in academics with a doctorate in Philosophy (Indian Aesthetics), she is a popular resource person for Dance, Indian Philosophy, Culture, Heritage, Aesthetics & Poetry in University of Madras, Kalakshetra, Nrithyodaya, Chennai& Mumbai among others. She has presented papers in National & International conferences, many of which have been published. Having held senior academic positions in well-known institutions, Dr.Rajshree is currently Director, ShasunShakthi Cell, & Humanities-in-charge, School of Liberal Education, SSS Jain College, Chennai. She is also a faculty member, Dance Dept, (Distance Education Mode), SASTRA University, Thanjavur. She is a member, Board of Studies, (Dance) in University of Madras.

Smt. Uma Sriram - Dance and Costume

Uma Sriram is one of the senior most disciples of Guru Dr Padma Subrahmanyam. She is the senior most teacher at Nrithyodaya, ably guinding students in the practical and theory of BharataNrithyam. She has specialised in stage make-up and costume and designs the cotumes for Nrithyodaya, Chennai. She is also the recipient of the Senior Research Fellowship, Govt. of India for Costume designing.

Smt. Gayatri Kannan - Dance & Nattuvangam

Gayatri is a singer of excellence and a disciple of S. Rajam. She is also a dancer with Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam as her guru and mentor. For being an all-rounder (Dance, Nattuvangam & Vocal), Gayatri was awarded the prestigious title of "Yuva Kala Bharati" by Bharat Kalachar in 1993; her husband is one of the earliest recipients of this title. She took her Master's Degree in Sanskrit from the Presidency College, Chennai where she came first in the overall aggregate of all the MA Degree awardees of the College. She was awarded M. Phil Degree in Sanskrit by the Madras University for her dissertation "SaundaryaLahari and SivanandaLahari - A Comparitive Study". She got distinction in the examination and her dissertation was rated as "highly commendable". Gayatri obtained her Ph.D Degree from the same University (Dept. of Sanskrit) for "MadhuraVijayam - A Literary Appreciation". She was awarded the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship for her Ph.D work. She is a senior teacher at Nrithyodaya, Chennai.

Smt. Vaishnavi Ananthanarayanan - Dance & Music

Vaishnavi Anand is a well-known Carnatic Vocalist and Bharatanrityam Dancer, a performer, teacher and researcher who has made a niche for herself in the Singapore cultural scene as well as in India. Vaishnavi had her early lessons in Carnatic Music under her grandmother, Smt. Leela Gopalan, continued under Sri Panchapakesa Iyer and further pursued under Smt. Vijayalakshmi Nathan of Mumbai. Since 2003, she has been receiving advanced training from Vidwan Sri Alepey Venkatesan (her grand-uncle) in Chennai. She was initiated into the art of BharataNrityam by the internationally acclaimed danseuse, Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam. She has been pursuing BharataNrityam and learning Natya Sastra under her mother, Dr.Jayashree Rajagopalan in Mumbai for 3 decades and has been undergoing advanced training in Karanas and Natya Sastra under Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam in Nrithyodaya, Chennai. She has also undergone training in Nattuvangam. She has completed her ‘NrityaVisharad’ and ‘NrityaShali’ in Bharatanrityam.

Smt. Gayatri Sundaresan - Music

She has learnt Carnatic Music from Devakottai Srinivasa Iyengar. She also went on to learn the nuances of melody and the theory of music under Smt. Kamala Krishnamurthy, Sri V. Vamanan & Smt. S. Rajam. She is a correspondent for Sruti Magazine. She is one of the main voices in Nrithyodaya Mumbai’s orchestra.

Sri Bombay V Anand - Violin

Bombay V. Anand is one of the senior disciples of violin vidushi Kum A. Kanyakumari. He is one of the sought after violinists and has accompanied several senior and upcoming artistes. He has performed extensively in many sabhas in Chennai, Mumbai and other places in India and abroad. He started learning violin from Shri. Borivili Kannan in Mumbai and continued under Smt. Gomati Sitaram at The Fine Arts Music School, Chembur, Mumbai where he successfully completed the 7 year music course in 1993. He then received advanced training in carnatic music with particular focus on violin accompaniment for vocal music from Guru Smt. T.R.Balamani of Mumbai. In 2001, he came under the tutelage of Kum. A. Kanyakumari and has been intensively groomed in her baani.

Sri Pallavur V. Harish - Harmonium & Music

Pallavur V. Harish has had his training in Carnatic Music for over a decade under Guru Smt. Vijayalaxmi Nathan. He is a self-taught Harmonium player and has accompanied for several Carnatic and Hindustani music ensembles as well as rendered background scores for Dance. He is a graded Bhajan Singer from the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation. Apart from the classical and devotional daises, Harish has also been able to exhibit his talents as a vocalist and harmonium player at some of the non-classical platforms in the city. He is part of the Aryans Band and gives special stage shows during the Navaratri Dandiya Festivals.

Sri Aditya Rajagopalan - Mridangam, Konnakkol & Music

Aditya Rajagopalan hails from a family of musicians, representing the fifth generation of performing artistes. Aditya has undergone training in Mridangam under the able tutelage of Guru Shri T.S. Nandakumar, beginning his journey with the art in 1996 at the Shanmukhananda Music School. He has been accompanying artists for over 15 years and has had the good fortune to perform at prestigious platforms such as the All India Radio and Doordarshan in Mumbai. Aditya has also been learning Carnatic music for over two decades under Guru Smt. Vijayalakshmi Nathan and has performed at both the classical and non-classical platforms.

Ramakrishnan V who holds a double master’s degree in Technology (M.Tech) and Business administration (M.B.A) is an IT consultant employed with Tata Consultancy Services, Mumbai. He is pursuing Sanskrit studies at the Kovida level with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan ,Chowpatty and has been running its Matunga Chapter for the last four years or so imparting as well as training teachers for Sanskrit propagation. He also conducts classes to impart Yajur and Sama Vedas besides being an accomplished devotional singer himself.

Dr. Uma Maheshwari Shankar

Vice Principal , Head dept of Philosophy, S.I.E.S. College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sion, Mumbai. She has been teaching UG & PG Philosophy courses for the past two decades. She has presented research papers on varied themes like, Vedanta, Philosophy of Religion, Ethics, Yoga, spirituality, Bhagavad Gita and so on. Has published many papers in International and National journals, is Ph. D and M. Phil guide, has supervised more than a dozen students.

Smt. Shyamala Prasad (Yoga)

Smt. Shyamala Prasad (Yoga)

A science graduate from Bangalore University, She is a Yoga teacher and therapist from Yoga VidyaNiketan. She has completed B.A.Yogashastra and M.A.Yogashastra from Somaiya College. Shyamala has served as a yoga teacher with Yoga Vidya Niketan for seven years. During the tenure organised various workshops for the institute on yoga related subjects like, Yoga for Senior Citizens, Suryanamaskar, Yoga for Diabetes, Obesity and Stress Management etc. Currently working with Welingkar’s Institute of Management studies (Matunga) as a yoga teacher. She is a Yoga enthusiast and practitioner from the past 11 years.
